Q: What the focus of ArtSpike Magazine? A: Visual, written and performing arts. In every issue we highlight the works of at least one visual artist, publish poetry and short stories from the website and cover timely arts events going on in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. We have an open submission policy when it comes to written works and encourage you to share you works on the website as a way to easily publish your works and learn from others at the same time. Q: What's the difference between the website and the magazine? A: The website is open to anyone who wishes to publish and share their written works. We use selected works from the website for the print edition which is produced twice a month. Q: How was this website developed? A: ArtSpike.org is similar to the popular WebLog (or Blog) that has been proliferating on the web for years. The website was developed with open source software including a tweaked version of Thatware which was developed as a Blog front end (similar to PHP Nuke), and uses mySQL as a database backend. Arie Vandenberg, the founder of ArtSpike Media, is the web developer/programmer. Submissions Q: What is your submission policy? A: You are welcome to submit any written works that you wish, including short-short stories & micro-fiction, poetry & prose, gallery & art reviews, commentary & perspective and "stream of consciousness" writing. People will be able to read your submission as soon as you submit it through the website. Guidelines: All works must be original, written
by you. Postings must be related to the focus of ArtSpike - arts and culture(as
it relates to arts). Q: Can I mail material to ArtSpike? A: Yes, you may snail-mail printed materials to ArtSpike Media, 445 McGregor Ave., Cincinnati Oh. 45206. You may also email works as a file attachment to editor@artspike.org. The preferred way to submit works is through the website. Q: What happens if my submission gets picked for print? A: You will be contacted via voice or email as to which one of your submissions has been chosen for print. At this time, the editor will go over any edits to your work (if any) before press time. If this happens, please try to stay in touch with our editors and verify any requested changes to your work. Q: Do I get paid if my work makes it to print? A: Generally, if your work was submitted through the website, no. We are working on a policy where you will get paid for submitted works that are printed, but this has not been finalized. Q: Do I lose ownership of my works once submitted to the website or printed? A: No, you retain ownership of all written works. By submitting your work to us, you grant us one time print rights to include your submission in the print edition. If you do not agree to grant ArtSpike Media one time print rights, please do not submit works to the website.
